Known mostly for his quick swim splits, Blain's foundation comes from an elite junior swimming background in Jacksonville, FL with Coach Randy Reese, former University of Florida Head Coach and USA Olympic Assistant Head Coach. After many years away from competition, Blain used his swimming background to jumpstart his move into triathlon. Guided by such greats as Siri Lindley and, more recently, professional triathlete and 2013 Challenge Roth winner Dirk Bockel, his resume includes multiple USAT Age Group All-American achievements and many Ironman, Rev3, and USAT event podiums. In 2013, Blain was 2nd at Ironman 70.3 St. Croix, qualifying for the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii where he went 9:54:12 and was 16th in his age group.
As a coach, Blain believes in a logical approach to training while maintaining a healthy, balanced lifestyle and is motivated by athletes who are goal setters in life and sport. His coaching is individualized to each athlete and their expectations. He believes there is no greater motivator for an athlete than a coach willing to invest personal time and make an emotional commitment to their success.
Blain and his family live in St. Augustine Beach, FL and considers the area one of the very best for active lifestyle enthusiasts.
